"The Father spoke one Word, which was his Son, and this Word he speaks always in eternal silence, and in silence must it be heard by the soul" (St. John of the Cross, Sayings of Light and Love #100).
The Saint Joseph Retreat Cottage is a perfect place to be drawn into deeper communion with God's Eternal Word in silence. Surrounded by beautiful Napa Valley vineyards and hills, the Saint Joseph Retreat Cottage provides a place of silence and solitude for contemplation and communion with God. Silence allows us to be open to hear God's voice in whatever way God may choose to speak to us: in His true Presence in the Eucharist, in the Word of God, and in nature.
The newly renovated Saint Joseph Retreat Cottage features a beautiful chapel for offering Mass and private prayer. The cottage also has six individual rooms, each with its own private bath. There is a full kitchen for preparing your own meals, a dining area along with indoor and outdoor lounge areas, including an outdoor gas fire pit for chilly mornings or evenings. Each retreat room has its own individually controlled AC/heat unit.
Self-Directed Retreats
Retreats are strictly silent and self-directed. We try to keep the cottage to only one person at a time, but there may be up to three unacquainted guests on retreat at any one time (same sex only). All meals are self-provided.
Length: Minimum 2 nights, maximum 8 nights.
Group Retreats: You may also schedule your own exclusive group retreat for two to six persons.
Individually Directed Retreats
For those seeking spiritual guidance, individually directed retreats are also available. You may be accompanied each day by a Carmelite friar as your spiritual director. With an approved application, a person's directed retreat will be a strictly solitary experience at the cottage. We do, however, ask for a donation for spiritual accompaniment.
Length: Minimum 4 nights, maximum 8 nights.
The rate for retreats is $175 per person, per night, full payment will be due upon arrival.
